Russia are enjoying a 4-0 winning streak after they defeated Argentina in straight sets in the first round of the FIVB Volleyball Women's World Cup at the Yoyogi National Stadium on Wednesday
Alexandra Pasynkova top scored with 14 points, followed by Nataliya Obmochaeva, who added 10 points for Russia, while Argentine captain Emile Sosa and Josefina Fernandez could only produce a combined output of 14 points. Russia scored 10 points on stuff blocks and three points on serves, to complement their 50 attacks.
Russian top scorer Tatiana Kosheleva did not see action in the match, but her team still managed a successful run on their offence. Russia nailed their crosscourt spikes to gain a 15-5 advantage, while Argentine spikers struggled heavily as their taller rivals guarded the net well. Russia rushed to a 25-10 win in the first set and applied the same pressure on Argentina to get another 25-10 set score and gain a 2-0 set-advantage in the match.
Argentina started better in the third set but could not keep up with their opponents as the European side imposed various tactics on offence with good crosscourt kills and drop shots. The strong Russian spikes sent Argentina squandering to set-up a counter-attack. Russia concluded the third set and match 25-16.
