Improved blocking and serving led to victory, says Orduna

Argentine players celebrated their 3-0 victory over Cuba in the first round of the FIVB Volleyball Women's World Cup at the Yoyogi National Stadium on Sunday

Tokyo, Japan, August 22, 2015 - Argentina used a great blocking technique for a 3-0 (25-15, 25-21, 25-23) win over Cuba in the first round of the FIVB Volleyball Women's World Cup at the Yoyogi National Stadium on Sunday.

Argentina coach Guillermo Orduna: "We were able to recover physically and mentally from yesterday's match. We were able to play our game. We showed strong power and our teamwork worked well today. We blocked better today and increased the level and direction of our serves. Our counterattack was better.

Argentina captain Emilce Sosa: "We played the way we have been seeking today. We wanted to win after playing them in Toronto for the Pan American Games."

Argentine player Leticia Boscacci: "I am very happy with this result. Yesterday was rough. We played aggressively in both serves and attack. We only made a few mistakes in critical moments.

Cuba coach Robeto Garcia: "I was hoping the team would play better but they didn't play as I expected. Our players lacked concentration on blocking and serving. We must discuss and study our tactics for tomorrow. Regla Gracia has a knee injury. Her status for tomorrow is uncertain."

Cuba captain Linares Matienzo: "We wanted to win but could not do it against Argentina. We maintained our concentration and communicated better in the third set."
