·    Cuba won all three previous meetings in straight sets (1991, 1995, 2007).
·    Kenya are eyeing their first win against a NORCECA side in the competition (11 matches). In 2011, they won their first set against a NORCECA team, losing 3-1 to Dominican Republic.
·    Cuba have won all of their seven meetings with teams representing the CAVB without dropping a set.

Cuba
·    Cuba will participate in their 11th World Cup, having won the competition a record four times (1989, 1991, 1995, 1999). They were only absent in last year's edition.
·    They qualified for the Olympic Games via the World Cup in their winning campaigns of 1995 and 1999.
·    Only China (7, G3-S1-B3) have won more medals of any colour than Cuba's six medals (G4-S2).
·    Cuba have won seven of their last eight matches at the World Cup, only losing to Italy in 2007 (3-0).
·    Cuba have the youngest team in the competition with 10 of their players still in their teens. Ailama Cese Montalvo is the youngest in the competition with her 14 years of age.

Kenya
·    Kenya have made the most appearances at the World Cup of all CAVB sides, with four participations.
·    They finished last in 1991, 2007 and 2011, and claimed second last place in 1995.
·    Kenya's only win in the competition came in 1995 against fellow African side Egypt (3-0). This win also marked their first set wins after 17 consecutive straight set defeats.
·    Kenya could become the first African country with multiple wins in the World Cup. Algeria can also achieve this feat.
