Dominican Republic take on Serbia challenge

·    Dominican Republic and Serbia have met twice at the World Cup. In 2007 Serbia prevailed in straight sets and in 2011 Dominican won after five sets.
·    After their 2011 encounter, these teams met three times in the World Grand Prix (2013, 2014, 2015). Serbia won all three matches in straight sets.

·    Dominican Republic concluded their first round in this World Cup with a 3-2 defeat against Japan.
·    This meant that their table record fell to three wins and two defeats in the competition.
·    That was the Dominican Republic's first ever five sets defeat at the World Cup. They had won each of their previous five World Cup encounters that went the distance.

Serbia
·    Last Thursday, Serbia defeated Korea 3-0 to improve their track record to four wins and one defeat in this tournament.
·    Serbia's only defeat in the first round came in their opener, when they succumbed to China (3-1).
·    Their four wins in a row are a team record within this competition. They have won three consecutive in three sets, a feat they accomplished once before at the World Cup. In 2007, they blanked the opposition in three successive World Cup matches.
