Cuba coach Garcia says team played well despite being tired

Cuba coach Roberto Garcia steered his team to a 3-1 win over Kenya

Tokyo, Japan, August 22, 2015 – Cuba prevailed over Kenya in four sets in the first round of the FIVB Volleyball Women’s World Cup at the Yoyogi National Stadium on Saturday.

Cuba coach Roberto Garcia: “I knew this would be a high-level tournament. We have to improve blocking and serving despite winning. The team was not in good condition. We arrived only 24 hours ago and we’re fatigued after the second set. Our players believed in themselves and made few errors.”

Cuba captain Sulian Caridad Linares Matienzo: “Today was a tough game. We are not in the best condition because of the jetlag, but we were able to win despite this condition.

Kenya coach David Lungaho: “The Cuban team played better than us. They made fewer errors. We had our chances but could not close out the first and second sets. We will continue to improve and show a better performance next time.”

Kenya captain Brackcides Khadambi: “It was a good game. We played well at times and not well at others. Losing one match does not mean we have lost the tournament.”
