Cuba chase second victory while Dominicans play for third

 

Head-to-head
·    Cuba won both of their previous World Cup meetings with Dominican Republic, 3-1 in 2003 and 3-1 in 2007.
·    Since their last meeting in the World Cup, Cuba defeated Dominican twice in straight sets in other international tournaments - 2008 World Grand Prix and 2011 NORCECA Championship.
·    Dominican Republic are yet to defeat a fellow NORCECA side at the World Cup as they failed to win any of their five previous meetings.

Cuba
·    Cuba can lose three World Cup matches in a row for the first time since 1981, when they lost five in a row (country record).
·    They can lose three successive World Cup matches without winning a set for the first time ever in the World Cup. This will be their 89th match in the competition.
·    This can be the first World Cup edition in which Cuba lose three of their opening four matches. This is their 11th participation.

Dominican Republic

·    Dominican Republic can win three World Cup matches in a row for the first time ever.
·    They are three wins shy of their total number of victories in the 2011 World Cup (5).
·    In each of their participation, they had at least two victories in the competition.
·    They have won all the five World Cup matches that went into a fifth set.
