Argentina win their second match at World Cup Qualifiers

 

Argentina celebrate their second win

Comodoro Rivadavia, Argentina, June 5, 2015 – Argentina and Peru, the strongest teams participating at the FIVB South American World Cup Qualifiers won their second matches against Chile and Uruguay, respectively.  

Peru did not give any chances to Uruguay and ended up winning 3-0 (25-16, 25-14, 25-19). The top scorer was Angela Leyva with 13 points. Uruguay was also beaten by Argentina 3-0.

With the host fans filling Ingeniero Huergo Stadium, Argentina won with an outstanding performance, as they did on the first day against Uruguay. They downed Chile 3-0 (25-5, 25-16, 25-13) in a clash of Argentine coaches: Guillermo Orduna (ARG) and Hugo Jáuregui (CHI). Yamila Nizetich topped the scorers with 15 points.

Yael Castiglione of Argentina commented: "We are very confident of qualifying for Japan. To play at home in front of such a large number of our fans is very exciting and we are very proud of their support. We played the two first matches at our best level and we hope to finish playing at the same level.”

Paola Galusso of Uruguay tried to put his team’s results in perspective: "We are a very young team starting to develop and grow, so for us this is a great experience facing major South American teams. We also now have our own training facilities and a full-time coach for the first time, so we hope to make good use of all these. Our goal is to grow.”

Mirtha Uribe of Peru said: "Our goal to start with a victory was fulfilled and we want to keep growing. We dream of qualifying for Japan and are very motivated.”
