Manabe credits Uchiseto for victory over Dominican Republic

Mami Uchiseto (No. 15) came in as a substitute in the match but her performance was instrumental for Japan's 3-2 victory over Dominican Republic in the FIVB Volleyball Women's World Cup

Tokyo, Japan, August 27, 2015 - Japan prevailed 3-2 in their encounter with Dominican Republic in the FIVB Volleyball Women's World Cup at the Yoyogi National Stadium on Thursday.

Japan coach Masayoshi Manabe: It was a tiring match. I don't know how long we played but I'm glad we won the match. Uchiseto entered the match late but she saved us. Her attacks and serve-receptions were good. Miyashita started because she has been playing well lately. However, she was not doing well in serve-reception tonight.

Japan captain Saori Kimura: "I didn't play well, but the team worked well and I'm very glad for that."

Japan player Yuki Ishii: "They were tall and powerful with good defence. It means a lot that we could win in the end."

Japan player Chizuru Koto: "The Dominican Republic played well with their serve and attack. It means a lot that we were able to finish with a victory.

Dominican Republic coach Marcos Kwiek: "It was an intense match. I'm not happy to lose, but it was a good match. We have learned a lot playing against strong teams. I think it was a good game but better than the last few matches we've played. Our spikes and blocks are our good characteristics.

Dominican Republic captain Prisilla Rivera Brens: "It was an intense and difficult match. It always is when we play Japan. They were well-organised. We tried to attack their weaknesses but we did not play our best."
