Kwiek says victory over regional rival Cuba important

Dominican Republic coach Marcos Kwiek felt that it was an important 3-1 victory over Cuba as the latter are their regional rivals for Olympic qualification

Tokyo, Japan, August 26, 2015 - Dominican Republic defeated regional rivals Cuba 3-1 (25-22, 25-22, 18-25, 25-23) in the first round of the FIVB Volleyball Women's World Cup at the Yoyogi National Stadium on Wednesday.

Dominican Republic coach Marco Kwiek: "We won the three points and that is important especially as Cuba are our regional rivals for the Olympic qualification. I don't think we played that well even though we won. We have to keep studying for our matches with Cuba."

Dominican captain Prisilla Rivera: "We are happy to win and get the three points. We know we have to focus our attention on Japan tomorrow. It was difficult to keep our rhythm in this match."

Dominican player Brenda Castillo: "It was a tough match. I think we were the ones making the match difficult. We want to continue playing well in this competition.

Dominican player Jineiry Martinez: "We are happy to win. We made a lot of mistakes and we hope not to repeat them in the coming matches."

Cuba coach Roberto Garcia: "Both teams were playing so-so in this tournament. We made some mistakes in crucial moments. Even though we did beat Kenya (the other day), I thought we played better today."
