Dominican Republic snap two-game losing streak with win over Algeria

 

Yonkaira Paola Pena Isabel leads Dominican Republic with 14 kills.

Nagoya, Japan, September 5, 2015 – Dominican Republic snapped their two-game losing streak at the 2015 FIVB Women’s World Cup with a 3-0 (25-11, 25-12, 25-7) rout of Algeria Saturday afternoon.

Yonkaira Paola Pena Isabel made 14 kills in 17 attempts and a block for Dominican Republic before receiving the Most Impressive Player award. Marianne Fersola Norberto also notched up 15 points and Erasma Moreno Martinez added 10.

Dominican Republic, who have improved to a 5-5 win-loss record, outblocked Algeria 8-1 and outserved them 8-3.

Chahla Benmokhtar led the scoring for Algeria with six points and Nadira Ait Oumghar added five while the African runners-up have yet to find a win after 10 matches in the 12-team round robin tournament.
