Cuba snap five-game losing streak with win over Algeria

Okayama, Japan, August 31, 2005 – Four-time World Cup title winners Cuba beat Algeria in straight sets here Monday afternoon to snap their five-game losing streak at the 2015 FIVB Women’s World Cup.The Cuban women, who had won the World Cup four times in a row from 1989 to 1999, swept Algeria 25-17, 25-16 and 25-14 for their second victory in seven tries while the African runners-up have lost all seven matches so far at this 12-team round robin tournament.Sulian Caridad Matienzo received the Most Impressive Player award after notching up 13 kills, three blocks and two aces to lead Cuba with 18 points with Heidy Margarita Rodriguez coming from the bench to add 10.Nawel Hammouche led Algeria with nine points. Cuba outblocked Algeria 13-4.
